REMEMBERING

I have to remember, is a fraise I find my self saying day in and day out. But what is it that I am really remembering? Am I using my memory cards well? Are they in right order?

Most days I am not. The fact is in my daily rush that I often forget to make the most of the time I spend with my sons. It unfortunately often seems I forget the most important moments of the day. I simply forget to see and catch many special moments, moments that mothers of up grown children have said to me enjoy this moment, time goes by so fast and I wish I had been uk steroid shop more cuddling and patient with my children when they where young.

Take in their youth days, you are planting magical seeds for their future and your future relationship with them. ( NO PRESSURE) J

Because when my sons act out and are not listening or are trying to get to much attention witch often becomes negative attention in certein situations I thought where more important in that particular moment that they get kind of pissed off and start to use their behavior in a negative way like not listening and saying simply no to everything I may ask for.

I noticed this because I was in talking and wondering with a friend the other day that peace and silence is the power to so many beautiful tools, with peace comes stillness. With peace comes love. With peace comes creativity. With peace comes comfort. When we feel deeply inside in peace we have a smile on our faces witch give our children, friends and family a very loving comfort and our children are so sensitive to this, they feel everything that we feel. It brings out the very most beautiful element in us witch lets our inner children feel free enough to run wild and actually free.

Later that day I was thinking as I went to get my sons at school everything was hecktick children running around, screaming, laughing and talking celibrateing that school was finished for the day. Me trying to keep my sons from running away in two different directions and be in control. We where also in a rush or I was in a rush to have their photo taken for new passports and I was asking them to hurry to catch the tram as in the same moment I saw it appear in the distance so I wanted to run to catch it but they refused following my lead and the sounds and words coming from my mouth seemed like I was invisible! They seemed busy with their things and their own toughts and wanted to go nice and slow their way.

The bottom line is it takes practice to find the smoothest ways to approach each family member, each mother has one million things on her mind and gigantic mountain of love in her heart. We cant be perfect but we can try our best to be peaceful and speak with love as a guide. We can at least try our best. I struggle much with that even if I have a feeling many of you think I am so calm all the time but I swear I am not. I have 4 brothers all younger then me so I might have a high tolerance but I am also from the north where every mother says disapline is love as most of the time it is more hard to go trough the problem take a moment to really see it and work thrugh it plus saying no is more hard then saying yes.

IMPORTANCE OF A DOULA

Often times when it comes to preparing for a baby you have a long list of the material items you could buy for your baby’s arrival. From cute little hand covers to expensive seats and strollers, the list goes on and on. Of course some of these items are necessary but a lot are just extra things your baby will quickly outgrow. However far too often one very important purchase is overlooked; doula support for the mother! A doula can provide necessary birth and postpartum support for any mother’s wishes, and her family. This support is so important as pregnancy, birth, and the fourth trimester are the foundation of the baby’s entire life, as well as the family unit as a whole. Unfortunately too many women are not being respected and honored during their childbearing years and it is time to change that. A doula can be a first step to make sure someone is on your side aiding and nourishing your transition into mothering your new baby.

While family and friend support is crucial for a mother, a doula has been specifically trained to serve a mother. A doula will give you different birth management techniques and resources, while teaching breathing and birthing positions and exploring your feelings of birth. Postpartum support can include a variety of services such as holding space for a birth sealing ceremony, belly binding , or preparing healing foods and placenta encapsulation. The doula support is so versatile and helps make sure the whole family is taken care of during this special time of welcoming a new baby!

A birth doula can help you dig deep into, and address, your own expectations, fears, and conceptions of birth. She will direct you to educational resources and help design a birth plan you will work towards achieving, while also helping to surrender to the power of birth! These preparations may utilize birth meditations, visualizations, affirmations, art therapy, journaling and much more. During the birth she will serve by your side the entire time. From offering massage, aromatherapy, even cleaning and helping direct family to serve the mother. She may also offer immediate basic breastfeeding support. A birth doula can make the birthing environment much easier to push through for everyone, including fathers, as the mother has someone directly attending her and her needs at all times. This has proven to reduce the length of childbirth and the likelihood of interventions.

A postpartum doula helps navigate the transition into motherhood, regardless of if it’s your first or sixth child. From serving as a listening ear, preparing nourishing meals, holding the baby during mom’s showers or sitz baths, the help is endless. Many doulas can also encapsulate and prepare placenta medicines that help you replenish after giving birth! She can offer you herbal teas, use crystals and belly binding, or do vaginal steams. There are plenty of healing and nourishing support offerings for mothers. Far too much women are not resting and healing enough after creating, growing, and pushing a baby out! A postpartum doula is an extra pair of hands, ears, heart, and mind full of extra tools to help a mother heal, replenish, and feel supported during her fourth trimester.

Receiving the service of a doula helps a mother to feel empowered, prepared, and honored. Most women who hire a doula have shorter and more manageable births and smoother postpartum periods. Her needs are heard and directly supported emotionally, physically, and mentally. A more rested, nourished, and supported mother can ultimately serve and help herself, the baby and whole family more! WELCOME NADAR TO OUR MOTHER’S SPELL FAMILY

Hello! My name is Nadar Alizadeh, and I’m a 29 year old mother living in The United States. I am so honored to start writing to you all through Johanna and Mother’s Spell! I met Johanna at an amazing gathering called Aniwa, where indigenous elders from all over the world came together to share their wisdom and messages for healing ourselves and ultimately Mother Earth. It was truly magical to connect with so many conscious people with some of the same missions as myself! It is a blessing to have linked with a platform where I can share my truths and journey of motherhood with so many other beautiful mamas.

Entering motherhood eight years ago was the best thing that could happen to me. Mothering four children; ages 7,6,3 and 6 months, means I’ve been pregnant and breastfeeding for over eight years straight! By the time I finish nursing my son (I shoot to get them as close to 3 as I can) it will be one decade of breastfeeding. To say it’s been quite the roller coaster of an experience is an understatement.

Motherhood is like an incredible tribe that no outsiders can possibly understand. We have such an honorable job raising children! Each day they are retaining so much knowledge and growth, and so are we as mamas. It’s such a special gift that comes with immense responsibility, devotion and even pain! Being a mother is one of the most undervalued jobs there is and that is such a shame as we are truly shaping the future! As mothers I encourage us all to do better in supporting, encouraging, and lifting each other up. I am committed to spending the rest of my life serving mothers and families in any and all ways I can.

I am a birth and postpartum doula, as well as a vegan personal chef. Doula service is so crucial because too many women are not being honored, or even heard, during their childbearing years. Not enough support is given to most women during one of the most important and altering times of their lives! It’s so important to me that mothers are starting motherhood off feeling empowered, loved, supported and respected. Their purpose in the community is so powerful yet highly overlooked and disrespected, and I want to be part of changing that! I also love my role as a vegan chef because I see immediate results of how what we put into our bodies directly effects how we feel, look, and live! It’s so magical to help people nourish themselves and feel good about their results. Food is a staple to living and to be able to connect with people over their meals, while also helping our environment is so special! I enjoy writing on a broad variety of topics such as; natural and holistic self care, natural pregnancies and births, doula services, vegan lifestyles and homeschooling with a large family!

I am looking forward to connecting and sharing more of this journey through motherhood with you all. It is so special to be able to create a village of people to raise your children, and in today’s virtual world we can do so much through these screens. A day with NOI: the neighbourhood library cultural space

As you know, I love traveling around Milan and I love doing it with my nose on the constant search for novelties and changes, in the great scenarios and small things, like a neighborhood bookshop.
Walking through NoLo (this is what the area of Milan is called between Viale Padova and Viale Monza) I came across NOI – Cultural Neighborhood Space (in via delle Leghe 18) which, as the name implies, aims to be a reference point for the area and beyond. Curiosity drove me to enter and learn about 2 of the 4 souls that give life to US, both young and mothers, Alice and Anna. Together with Marco and Andrea (Alice’s companion and little Noah’s father) they decided to create this gathering point in the not easy sector of culture and publishing.
I talked to Alice about her, about her being a mother and about US.

1- Hi Alice and congratulations for this beautiful place. Tell me a little about yourself and your project.

Hi, I’m a journalist and for years I’ve been working in magazines related to the world of design and architecture.
I felt the need to open a place of my own, a dimension in which to convey my interests, from the popular soul – rooted in the neighborhood where I live – but at the same time that could aspire to become a small place known also abroad. A little by coincidence and a little by will these needs came together with those of Andrea, my partner in life, Marco, my great friend and Anna, also a mother and also a great connoisseur of design and architecture .
We looked at each other and decided to create US.

2– How come the illustration …

For me the illustration has always been more a passion than anything else, even if for years I take care of the last page of Abitare that promotes the work of Italian and foreign illustrators. I also published with 24 hours Culture an illustrated story about a people encountered in 2014, later translated into English, French, German. Our manifesto, which can be read on our website, concludes with the phrase “NOI is a highly reasoned hazard”. And so it is, born of an intuition. And from a dose of courage and unconsciousness.

3. Which audience is it aimed at? What readers do you want … to attract?

NOI is an independent bookshop specializing in illustration. The illustration, as a universal language, allows us to touch various areas, even very different ones. We therefore expect a heterogeneous audience: from the comic book enthusiast, to the mother who wants to make a gift for her son’s friend, from travelers who seek suggestions before a trip (beyond the canonical guides), to the ordinary, accustomed reader to read fiction, which instead can discover how a graphic novel can excite and surprise like a novel. But then WE also wants to be a community: not by chance we called it a neighborhood cultural space. We would like to become a point of reference for the neighborhood: NOI users should not necessarily be buyers of our securities.
If NOI is also populated by people who want to have a chat in the garden, by the little girl who comes here to draw after school, by the freelancer who has just had a child and is looking for some peace to send two emails… .all situations that they are occurring as I speak … I am happy. And then the most prolific ideas and collaborations often come from spontaneous meetings …

4. Why did you decide to do it there? what signals and messages do you want to send?

NoLo is a growing neighborhood and here you can really breathe a beautiful air beyond the marketing found, there are many activities and excitement.
Let me give an example: today I read on the social street that a lady had received a grand piano which she had to hoist up on the fourth floor. Neighbors and passersby were mobilized and a human chain brought “the boulder” to its destination. The lord of the piano, who came from a place in the province of Reggio Emilia, said that it was time he did not see a “solidarity from a country of the past” like that.
Here I believe that here there is the right humus to graft an activity like that of an independent bookstore and neighborhood cultural center. There is a community of solidarity. Unit. Enthusiastic. Sparkling. Young and creative.

5. Very nice to hear you talk about a community of solidarity and enthusiasm, especially in times like the present ones, where people often talk about closures and walls. Yours is a great challenge, like opening a bookstore challenging the megastores. what do you think is your winning weapon?

More than the megastores scares amazon. We cannot compete with the efficiency and breadth of their catalog. But our added value, which cannot be supplanted, is humanity that you can find at NOI
Going to a bookstore is not the only purpose to get out of his door with one or two new future readings under his arm. NOI aims to become a forge of encounters, a place of discovery, a space to experiment through collateral activities.
6. In these first months of activity, what do your visitors read?
I cannot answer this question yet; we are too “young”. For now, our editorial selection respects our taste, first of all. It is committed to combining painstaking research into independent productions and small printed paper jewels – including foreign ones – and an equally accurate choice of the best of the most popular publishers. We are studying our customers and we are ready to straighten the shot and welcome and try to satisfy everyone’s requests.

7. Now a mother-to-mother question … how do you and Anna combine your being “at the forefront” in a bookstore and being mothers?

It is difficult to ask a man how he combines his work in the forefront with his being a father. But it is true, it is not obvious that mothers of children so small, like Anna and me, embark on a similar undertaking, so full of questions and commitments. My idea (which for now I haven’t managed to put into practice but maybe it’s soon) is that NOI can become a second home for Noah.
It has a splendid garden, as few corners of Milan have, and is frequented by young parents with children of its age. Potentially his future friends. I like the idea that my son can grow up in such a stimulating environment, where so many things happen, even very different things, and where you see different faces every day. A protected environment but in which it will have the opportunity to live its freedom without always being visually controlled.

I left NOI with the feeling of being out of a corner of beauty and tranquility in the still chaotic Milan. Not only for the unique atmosphere that books can give to any place or for the colors of the illustrations, but above all for the community project that is NOI and for the idea that such a place can become a place of growth for the little ones like Noah, who grow among designs, colors, words and beautiful ideas.

ANIWA GATHERING IN NEW YORK JUNE 2019

There is something that happens to a woman’s brain when she delivers a baby.
It is like she delivers half of her brain at the same time and it goes away for few years. At least this is what happend to me.

After I had my two beautiful baby boys, I became a very happy mother totally and completely in love with my children and my new life as a mother:
what happend also was that I was becaming this strange human being from time to time and I seemed so lost in many ways: I am not sure if it was only because I was so far behind on good sleep, or all the space in my brain was now full of questions wonderings if my child was sleeping enough? eating enough? getting enough fresh air or if I was using the correct soap to clean them and their clothes or maybe even better no soap at all.

As soon as my younger son turned 3 years old and there for more independent and sicure, I felt like going alone to the bathroom and eating by himself.

Speaking and acting more like a humanbeing, I started to have a little more space in my brain to ask my self some questions that where meant for me.

How are you? How do you feel? What do you want to be when you grow up? And I realized I had no idea of the answers… So I went to look for it and asking my self endless of exhausting questions.
Only few months later, I found my self in a very sacred space.

Receving knowledge, wisdom and love through music, stories and prayers throughout from different tribes from all over the world. I was so welcomed to this beautiful family and made friends for life in this magicl space with my new tribe Aniwa.My life transformed, again. Stefania Nardizzi created her Goddess Lifestyle with her The Beddha

I found The Beddha through an Instagram story of a friend of mine a while ago and I fell totally in LOVE with their page.

All the products I saw on the account are essential to every woman’s home if you are like me.

There is nothing like a good rose bath or massasing the face with these magical rolls : I am very familiar with these kind of beauty products as I used to travel a lot and stocked up on some products like these when I lived in NYC, and I have even made my own at home. I was emotionally so happy to see this kind of brand building up here for the first time in Italy: so I started following them, and always wanted to reach out to them and see who was behind such a beautiful brand to make an interview for the blog and do some shopping for myself.

She beat me to it…. a few days later Stefania wrote me. She sent such a beautiful letter about her visions of life and her company that we started chatting and now we have many exciting things rolled up in our sleeves. First of all I want to congratulate her for creating this beautiful brand and her passion for every woman’s wellbeing.

How would you describe The Beddha as a brand?

The Beddha means “the beautiful” in the south of Italy, Salento, my birthplace.
It represents the beauty which comes out from our inner divinity and makes us so beautiful and peaceful; is a label built around a holistic and beauty lifestyle for modern goddesses.
I wanted to create a meditative beauty and wellbeing brand that women can use as a tool to tap into their inner divine nature, which is essentially their feminine energy source.
Using ancient knowledge and modern philosophy to enhance the sacred feminine through innate healing, I designed a collection of meditative tools that reflect and supports principles of self-love, self-awareness, women empowerment, sisterhood, modern femininity.
Women are reclaiming their spaces after years of neglect and devotion to somebody else. They are willing to practice daily routines to reaffirm their personal connection with own intentions and self-love moments. This is the style of life all we want since necessary.

What was your defining moment to wanting to create a brand that married spirituality and beauty?

It was a natural progression born from my personal need, interest and passion that I had at some point of my career, from my last years in Miami and through my travels and my experience at women’s spiritual gatherings. I discovered something was happening in the female community. Women were starting to explore new ways to reconnect with their soul, divine femininity and their body as a temple. I was able to discover ancient techniques from various remote cultures for self-care and meditation. Spending
time in different cultures, that were worlds away from what I was used to, exposed me to a sophisticated new way to use all the senses to rejuvenate static energies that may be the underlining causes of premature ageing and skin conditions. I realized, also studying marketing research, that my generation of women was yearning for a new gateway to mindful beauty that is more personcentered as opposed to seeking quick fixes which generally are short lived.
At that point, I decided to relocated back to Italy to establish my brand, with the purpose to merge Italian culture and skills with this new view keeping the flow of the melting pot lived in Miami.

How do you pick products to develop the brand?

For me, it all started with the concept that all we need is a single ingredient to manifest the most powerful transformations. I wanted to create a collection of products that were simple, easy to use and used one ingredient/component.
Herbs and flowers are powerful healing ingredients and I wanted to encapsulate this so created facial steam packs using botanical blends, rose petals for a meditative bath experience, facial rollers, and gua shas using crystals and facial grids using the vibrational powers of gems. All the collection is handmade and produced only in small batches, with ingredients carefully sourced to deliver luxurious products in accordance with principles of mindfulness and ethical production to heal and align mind, body, and spirit.

What’s your beauty ritual?

I carefully test in person for many months any tool, technique or fragrance I decide to produce.
This makes my days very busy!
For more than 2 years I have slept on my Silklandia silk pillowcase with my patented aromatherapy pendant, and I can say my skincare routine starts with it during my sleep, I cannot live without it.
When I wake up I wear my Bambooshell bamboo kimono, and I do 10/15 mins of breath meditation to oxygenate my cells, then I start to massage my face. I do it any day in the morning and in the night with my tools The Tribe.
I super love my botanical steam blends that I use 2 times a week and my rose bath which makes me peaceful any evening I want to be in love with myself. I really love all my kids (in this way I love named my products) and I believe in them and their benefits.

The wellness industry is booming around the globe, especially in places such as LA, London and Australia. Is the trend kicking off here in Italy? How can Italians have a more mindful beauty regime?

Italy has long been the destination in Europe for fine wine, food, culture and fashion as well. Indulging one’s pleasures. “Life is too brief to eat and drink poorly” is one of our famous proverbs hence why it took Italy a little longer to embrace the wellness trend.
Now, however, with yoga centers, gyms, juice bars and health retreats cropping over Italy, it means although slow to embrace the mindful approach to life, Italians are certainly now warming up to this new, slower paced approach to clean, mindful living. A slow and intentional approach to beauty can give us the space we need to reconnect with ourselves.
Here are some tips on how busy Italian women can be more mindful during their beauty rituals:
– Kick start your day with a positive mantra about yourself.
Instead of looking for flaws, say “I love my unruly eyebrows” or “I think my fine lines show depth and character”. Keep it up and you’ll see how pretty quickly the power of positive language can change the way we look at ourselves.
– Create and prioritise integrated beauty rituals that best serve you.
Include rituals like indulgent baths, facial masks, aromatherapy, massages, as well as a good nights sleep! Make time for your whole self every day.
– When you do follow through with your rituals, try to bring awareness to each moment. If it’s a relaxing bath, check in with yourself. Notice the sounds of the water, how the water feels on your skin etc.

You describe your beauty tools as meditative. Can you explain what that means and its impact?

My products cannot be used in just 2 minutes! They are designed with a ritual in mind. The prepping stages of getting the products ready to use is just as important as the moment they touch your skin because that’s when you set your intention. The preparing and the application forces the busy mind to slow down to steady pace so mind and body are aligned to channel the inner healing to clear stagnant energy.

Future plans for The Beddha?

We are a young company and already we are available on a global online platform but we are also working to distribute our meditative products globally through high level retails and dedicated and selected centers. We have also exciting plans to launch our women’s groups worldwide so women around the world can connect and share cultures, knowledge, and support for one another. We are sure we will find mindful and sacred sisters on our path to help us.

Skateboarding in Gaza: a project full of love and fun!

I got introduced to Andrè’s work by chance running into his shots thanks to a friend.
I really love photographs because they are often stolen and shared moments of happiness.
Andrè’s ones are even more so because they come from Gaza and their history has led me to want to get to know them. I met him on a sunny and warm Milanese Sunday while at the park he was training on the skate with two of his beautiful daughters with whom he shares this passion.

1. Hi Andrè, congratulations you are very good as a skater … tell us who you are?

I’m André Lucat and I’m a 38-year-old photographer with a beautiful family and 3 beautiful daughters.
I have a great passion for skateboarding and for all the culture that comes with it and all this has found a home in this beautiful project called Gaza Freestyle.
It is produced by a group of young people who refer to the Lambretta Social Center in Milan. They have been pursuing this initiative of support for Palestine for some years, in particular they promote a whole series of activities related to “freestyle”, from parkour to skate, from graffiti to rap and so on … thanks to these activities we have succeeded in getting closer to a complex reality like that of Gaza, giving the local population moments of joy and distraction within a very difficult reality every day.

2. What is Gaza Freestyle? How did you design and build it? I guess it wasn’t easy to do all this inside the Gaza Strip …

It was not easy … Gaza Freestyle developed thanks to 4 different work groups that were involved for 15 days between the end of December and the beginning of January, carrying out various projects in addition to the “freestyle”.
Initially there was the extension of a ramp originally built in a previous trip with the work of 4 volunteers, including myself, who left Italy and were supported by a large workforce of Palestinian children. After that there was a parallel project with the recording of a rap song, a song sung half in Italian and half in Palestinian, recorded in Gaza.
We have organized several workshops between Italian and local women to compare the conditions of women in Islamic society. In the last 10 years, with Hamas, women have been limited in a series of actions and freedoms. All these very interesting meetings and discussion activities were documented by a media group that moved within the Gaza Strip to monitor the implementation of individual projects.

3. How many were you doing all this?

About 20 people were involved among all the groups. I am the oldest with my 38 years, the youngest are 20 years old. All coming from different places, 3 from the Naples area and the rest from the Milanese hinterland. The Lambretta Social Center was the common thread for a group of friends who organized themselves to go for a moment of reflection and good.

4. What were the feelings you felt during these 15 days? What is the reality in the Gaza Strip?

Daily reality is very complex. On the one hand the constant fear of bombing from Israel, on the other you still have Hamas and its police who are Islamic fundamentalists and as a Westerner they don’t like you because they bring a different culture from theirs. This has also caused us organizational problems. So you always feel a little under attack or observation, I don’t say threat but almost … certainly the goal of creating Gaza Freestyle always gave strong and beautiful emotions that erased all the fears.

5. The fact of being a father among so many young people of Gaza and Italians, what emotions and feelings did he give you?

Being a father, It makes you feel like these kids who go to the yard every day were your kids even though by age they were almost always bigger than my daughters … it makes you imagine they really are your children. When you hear of these young Palestinians who have little hope, they will have little ambition in the future if they do not run away from their land to have hopes and not die young … it is clear that it makes a great impression. Think of your children, their aspirations and dreams.
Above all this struck me, to perceive the sense of defeat and resignation towards the future given by fear.

6. What have you accomplished concretely and in hopes with Gaza Freestyle?

We completed a mini skate park in less than 15 days, connecting it to an existing mini-ramp. We expanded it with various works by setting up a square that leads to the port of Gaza, a very decadent but potentially very beautiful spot with a sea view. There are also a lot of graffiti done inside the project … the best thing is that it has become a very popular gathering point for the boys of Gaza. A very beautiful thing because lived by those who practice skate but also by those who do not practice it, a place of outlet and fun for everyone.

7. What is left for you and your friends?

Definitely a beautiful experience, born of friendship and the desire to achieve something for others. All the things realized were possible thanks to a fundraising organized on the internet, a crowd-funding. After that we self-taxed ourselves by paying for our flights, stays and the materials used … all to make Gaza Freestyle possible. The nice thing is to have succeeded and having done it this way is even more so.

The chat with Andrè ended like this, with a big smile full of hope and desire to do for others. A beautiful message in a period where sometimes you don’t want to see outside of your ego. Take and risk one’s life to help, even “only” with a skate park, the young people of Gaza. Small messages and gestures that can start great changes. Thanks Andrè and thanks to all your group.

Courageous Captain or an Untamed Aviator?

I often wonder if passion and creativity can merge with planning and seriality in the artisan field and I found the answer in Valeria and Davide.
Maintaining a strong artisan identity, lent to the enterprise and with the addition of so much fun , they gave life to Kiddin.
Thanks to the time spent with Valeria, I managed to get into a project that goes beyond the object designed and created for children, goes beyond the highly qualitative and aesthetic side and reaches the child’s education, becoming the real protagonist of the furnishing, thanks to the active use that can be made of it, coming to become a Courageous Captain or an Untamed Aviator.

Hi Valeria, who are the founders of this project and how was Kiddin born?

Hello! Davide and i have been two great friends for many years, since University. I studied Architecture and Davide Industrial Design , both at the Milan Polytechnic.
We have also worked together for 15 years in a company of which we have been co-founders, working in the design and construction of furniture with recycled materials.
From all this , you can understand how Kiddin is quietly the son of our friendship and our experiences. We wanted to confront ourselves with themes linked to the innovation of the project, moving from the purely artisanal side of the “unique piece” to serial production by making beautiful design products at low costs.
The birth of Kiddin takes place in a delicate phase of our lives, driven by the idea of putting ourselves to the test from a design point of view as well as a realization, making a child project of these times.
However, there is also a romantic side, “a first time” … in fact Davide’s first child, who has two children, asked for a plane-shaped bed and from there he tried his hand at two prototypes for Kiddin and then …

Where does the name come from?
For us, designing and creating is above all a game. We want our products to become a source of play for the whole family, for those who build it and for those who live it. The name “kiddin” in English expresses precisely the desire to “tease”, give me the term, to “baby”.
Furthermore, I am very keen on the fact that Kiddin is born of a great friendship and professional experiences that have prepared us for this step, a bit like our son.

You live between Puglia and Milan and Davide in Milan. How are your “production processes”?
This has been our great challenge. As for me, I immediately wanted to move from Puglia while Davide lives in Milan. At the age of 40 and after 15 years of craft production experiences, the possibility of remotely managing the projects remotely stimulated us. It was very interesting to deal with the serial and industrial product dimensions, which we believe we can manage and develop better. We are very interested in this new concept of this product, which is produced by third parties and of which we only deal with the design if not in particular cases

Do you have an external production?

Yes, we choose a third-party company in Abruzzo (strategically at the center of the “Bel Paese” to better reach each region) and we strongly believe in the non-stagnation of doing business within a liquid and multicultural society like the current one.

Working in this way allows you to have even more “yours” spaces. A concept and a research that is also repeated in your products?

What we want to convey with Kiddin is something that we have always done from the working point of view, that is to say, to realize every imaginary without fear. Davide and I have never been afraid of anything, first as artisans and now as designers. We decided to work with children because we believe it is a fertile ground from a design point of view for the size of the game, much more than the other rooms in the house. This was a bit of a push. When we design our projects we always want to push ourselves further than the usual ways of working, with the challenge of making them useful objects for a child, eco-friendly, fun and even beautiful. We believe in movement, in play and in bringing the child’s bedroom to life at 360 degrees.
Our projects are places where children can study and rest but also and above all imagine, dream, think of being pilots or captains, using fantasy with instructive and stimulating elements.

How do you see Kiddin projected over the years?
The challenge is great because all our activity is projected to industrial by artisans, the greater the industrial seriality of the product, the greater is the commitment to make everything as precise and punctual as possible, containing costs while maintaining great quality and aesthetics. We are forty years old and therefore children of an “Ikea generation” that for 20 years has been making us coexist with allen wrenches and “do it yourself”. Even our products are and will be designed and conceived to be more and more easily mountable and allow each parent to fit a bed in the shape of an airplane or boat for their children.
For all our furnishings we have always been inspired by the Montessori principles, with elements of play that are both educational and stimulating at the same time.

With this very educational and not only productive vision of making furniture and thinking about them, we leave Valeria happy to have known such a beautiful reality, with an artisanal heart and an organized and productive instinct like a real industry.

I grew up jumping from one tree to another … I wonder how much fun could had been if I had one always available where I could climb anytime I want !

Irma’s laboratory

Before arriving at the Irma pasta factory in a central area of Milan, I had a mix of curiosity and amazement to meet a girl who, very young, started to do an ancient and tiring job, but precisely for this reason beautiful and important. Behind Corso Vercelli, in Via Mauri, there is Irma’s laboratory / shop, but it seems to enter the grandmother’s kitchen, pampered among scents and aromas reminiscent of the afternoons of when one was small.

Francesca, this is the name of our friend who has however kept the old name Irma, confides to us that it is her first interview a little fearful but it is not reluctant to tell us everything about herself, a life lived in constant movement and great aspirations, precisely the characteristics we need to “spread” well with a rolling pin in hand.

1. Hi Francesca, I’m very curious to know everything about you. How did you start and decided to do this job?

Mamma mia … I have always been linked to the world of food, I studied at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo and I also had to learn how to to cook as no one was cooking at home: After university I started working in catering, but in the office and that was not my place, I liked being with “hands-on”. Opening a pasta factory has always been my dream.

2. Where are you from, where did you live?

I was born in Rome, I lived in the Langhe 4 years and then I came to Milan. A great wanderings. In Milan I met Fabrizio and we had Agata. Just the birth of my daughter gave me the urge to do something different and build something concrete for her, since now it’s just me and her.

3. Where does the passion for fresh pasta come from?

I didn’t want to be a cook and I was never interested in having a restaurant and being a chef. I wanted to be an artisan, to do an ancient trade and bring it back into fashion by doing it like it used to, with no strange machinery or modern techniques. Here in the laboratory we use only a kneading machine and a dough sheeter, everything else is hand made like it used to be, day after day. I learned in London to make pasta, at a time when I wanted to change my life. I was in London and I learned there. I finished the University, I came to work in Milan, but after the first stage I decided to go to London and there I went to work in an Italian pasta factory in Shoreditch. I already knew how to knead, but there I learned what it means to do it at high rates: the London experience did not go well, a bit for the climate and a little for the city and so I returned to Italy to Milan monitoring places where I could open a pasta factory.

4. Yours is a fresh pasta workshop, with the sales point attached. How is your idea born? your project?

I always monitored the various possibilities, as already mentioned, but for me it was more like an almost unrealizable dream. I worked (she prefers not to say where) and I like it too..
However, I was separating from Fabrizio and this opportunity has arrived. I came to see the shop and without money in my pocket I signed the compromise … [laughs remembering the moment] … then I managed to get the mortgage and now I have my business. Now it’s mine.
There is work, the request is there and it is a lot, in fact I’m thinking of opening new businesses. I have a chef, Michele, who makes my fillings. He is a very dear friend: I called him at 3 am the day I signed the compromise saying “I fucked up I have no money and I signed up for the store”. Michele did not hesitate and told me “I don’t have any money but if you want to fire me tomorrow and I come to work for you”, so it was.

5. From that moment you have composed your staff and have started working. How was the customer response and how is it?

Very good, things went really well right away. We offer fresh and innovative products, but like grandma or mum did. When some elderly customers come to eat tortellini, they often compliment me by saying, “I’m from Modena and my mom used to do it that way.” It is for this gratitude that I do this job, see happy people.

6. Instead, how do young people approach these tastes and flavors that know a little about the past?

There are many young people who buy our products, the new generations are used to these new activities and rediscovery of ancient works. More elders are asking me, “But what if you graduated because you do this job?” [laughter] They are surprised that I started making the layers

7. Good Francesca, your business is in full growth and work certainly is not lacking. How do you think things will evolve and what plans do you have?

So … I started in October fighting the Christmas “battle” between dinners and gifts but I survived! On summer season we will have start to propose lunches, so it will be the novelty of making what we produce and eat it there!. A very tempting and difficult challenge.

I hope by 2020 to find a new place to build a new pasta factory, always with the laboratory for the in-house production of products. I want the people to see the production of pasta all the time : what we propose is a handmade product, where it is bought but also made where it is consumed. Directly in the laboratory. It’s my passion I can’t help it.

THISISME

I have been taking some time now to think and see in which direction I would like to take Mothers Spell as well as my personal life as a woman, mother, partner, sister, daughter and friend. What is really important? What messages do I really want to share? the first thing that came to my mind is reality: real life with its ups and downs.

The trip we did last summer in America really inspired me and took me back to my personal reality. I got reconnected to my roots somehow even if I was far away from my homeland which showed me also that we are all brothers, sisters and children of this planet. We all have the same mother at the end, Mother Nature, and if we are not connected to her we are not connected with ourselves, nor with our siblings around the world.

I think it is harder and harder to find true reality these days, and I have felt that each time I go out of town (that I have honestly and luckily done a lot of lately) and stayed in a place close to nature it has connected me to something higher and more powerful than wifi . I have been increasingly feeling that we are really lacking reality in our social media world.

This race to beauty and collecting stuff into our homes and closets is getting quite ridiculous. I am working on something that has been pushing me into this search and I that I will share soon, but for now I would like to talk about this and ask you to join forces with me and try out something new to make us aware of how much this situation is getting out of control.

It is so easy to get influenced and lose a clear vision of what is real. Make up, photo shop, fake lips, fake breasts and even fake asses are the norm and motherhood seems to be moving away from its original values and traditions. Getting back into shape after giving birth has become more important than staying home, resting and bonding with your own child. This insane pressure of looking good all the time is becoming a sad standard, and I see women criticize each other instead of holding hands. I am missing the connection and the true feeling of #sisterhood.

I see women of any age posting photos of themselves on social media that look so far from their reality and the face they have when they wake up in the morning. Of course we all prefer to post a photo of the better version of ourselves, but changing it into another person is just not ok. We are totally destroying our own self-esteem when we try to collect likes with something that is not even real.

I am in many ways relieved that I am not raising a girl in times like these, but it is my dream to become a mother of a girl one day, and this is why I would like to be a part of saying NO to this bullshit. We don’t need all these revealing, sexed up clothes to get attention. We need a good functioning healthy brain and a true heart to make sense out of life. Because if we don’t take more care of this we will all end up extremely lonely and unbalances, with an insane obsession with things that don’t even matter at all. I know this is a theme that many other people around the world have been speaking out about and that makes me happy because I know I am not alone in hoping to make things better. I am just becoming a bit afraid and sad to see where humanity seems to be going as I am not seeing the change, so I have decided to do something about it in myself, and hope to create a ripple effect, as I am sure this is haunting many of us somehow and sometimes without even realizing it. It’s easy to fall victim of this constant social media sharing! I sometimes realize that I am taking a photo of a sunset instead of enjoying it with myself and connecting to how I feel watching it, or enjoying it with my family.

Lately I have therefore given quitting social media a good thought I can feel this is making me in so many ways frustrated, sad and in some weird way not satisfied with what I have. I also find myself often with my phone in my hand while my sons are trying to get my attention and that is NOT OK. I don’t want to be hypnotized on my phone while my son is asking me for attention and love.

I grew up watching women in Iceland dressed so differently on television than in many other parts of the world. They where for sure all very beautiful but never half naked. They just simply said no. What I wish to see is strong, powerful, clever women speaking out loud and being a good example to our young girls. But what I am sadly seeing all over the world including Iceland is young girls posting photos of themselves with tiny tiny waist lines, unreal eyebrows, unreal hair color and unreal breasts, all posing in the same way and it has gotten so far out of control that yoga influencers who are supposed to be using their accounts to get people to do their yoga, care for their wellbeing and meditate have now stared doing their yoga routines on their underwear just to catch people’s attention! You know what, I am tired of this! I am tired of people trying to be perfect and sharing only perfect things… and that includes myself.

We don’t all have to look the same to be perfect. What IS perfection anyway?!?! We should embrace the skin we were given. Give ourselves the respect we deserve instead of covering ourselves up with too much stuff. We should take care of our body so we can blossom in the unique version of us. Find our balance and live our life in a healthy, strong way. We are allowed to make mistakes, we are allowed to wake up with a puffy face. That is all normal.

It is time for people once and for all to stand together and make a revolution against this, to embrace who we are, faults and all. I would like to encourage all the women, girls, men and boys to post photos or video of themselves just the way they are, without make up and with messy hair or in real life situations, our everyday struggles, with the hashtag #ThisIsMe.
